Dan Mann's high performance groveler.
Think small wave grovel, fast and fun. No-paddle takeoffs, buttery floaters. The Sweet Potato is probably the widest, flattest, thickest small wave surfboard you will ever surf. It's high performance but it's definitely a groveler, this shape is the absolute most fun you can have in really bad waves. It's the board that should never leave your trunk.
This is the updated Sweet Potato, refined with a swallowtail - the latest iteration of Mannkine's small wave shape that transformed what surfing is for many. It converts waves that would normally require a longboard (if even) into rippable potential and fun because of the generous volume packed into a small package that is loose and generates tons of drive. The trademark deep double barrel concave essentially splits the board in half when tipped over and driving through turns, making the board feel way more narrow than it actually is. The new tail outline, combined with some tweaks on the bottom contours through the fins, has increased the maneuverability for tighter pocket turns without taking away the projection and grovel speed in gutless surf.

"Can’t say enough about how much I like my Sweet Potato. It’s so fast and fun in crummy waves. I only long boarded once last summer because the Sweet Potato makes tiny waves so fun. God I hope they keep this in the FireWire lineup. It turns crazy well for how wide it is. It’s so fast in slow waves too. Everything you want in board for crummy little wave."

"Got red bubbles on deck all over the board Poor quality Got the same on sci-fi 2. 0 Gonna never buy this anymore"
"I can carve and take all the waves in small conditions in the middle of longboarders. So easy and fun to ride in a 5'6 very good shape, when I first saw it I thought it was too large but 22 1/2 is required to take th√®se waves I really love it. üëå"
"Incredible board ! Fast, stable, with smooth tiens. It work in 2 feet. I love it !"
"Bought the sweet potato 5'4 right after the introduction. Currently 51 years old, 170 lbs and 5'11 tall. Had a Seaside before, but this is the ultimate groveler. Live near the Northsea in Europe where waves are slower en fatter. Love this board. It catches waves easily and in combination with the pulled in tail and the thinned out rails you could experience the joy of performance even in smaller than smal waves. 1-3 ft is perfect, but you can stretch it to 4-5 ft if the waves are weaker and fatter. Highly recommend."
"A lot of research online about the Sweet Potato and the not so great possibility of the board not performing so well on the bigger sizes. Like, 6'4. So, I bought it. And it is AMAZING. I am an intermediate surfer from Portugal. I usually ride waves not taller than me, so, I will not paddle out in more than 2 meters. I have a back problem that messed with my paddle power and other stuff, So, To keep riding smaller boards, I had to find something that could help and keep the performance. The Sweet Potato 6'4 works perfectly. I pair it with the 2+1 new Rob Machado fins (made for the Machadocado) and the board performs. Responds fast. Paddles amazingly. It's light and very very forgiving. I thought I came here and share my view. I am 67 kilos and 1. 70 meters high. I am small and light. If your foot is in the back of the board, the board will do everything you want it to. It's not a typical shortboard, no. But it's super fun, responsive, fast. One of the fastest I've ridden because of the super flat rocker. I hope this review helps other people that are in doubt and break the stigma a little bit about shorter boards with loads of volume, Don't be ashamed to ride something different and that the pros might consider a Kook move. Ride what makes you have fun. This board is a lot of fun. :)"
